You cannot control the outcome. You can only control the effort. Most goals are written with one line. That is the problem.

The Old Way — SMART Goals

What most people write:

"I want to lose 10kg this year."

"I want to close $1 Million in sales."

The problem: These are destinations with no engine. You stare at the number. You feel anxious. You do not know what to do today. So you do nothing. You call it "life got in the way." It was not life. The goal had no engine.
A boat with ten rowers and no oars goes nowhere — regardless of how loud the captain shouts the destination.

SMART goals teach you to set a destination. They do not tell you what to do at 6AM on a Tuesday when motivation is gone. That gap is where 90% of goals die.

The TAME Way — Two Lines

LINE 1 — THE DESTINATION (RESULT)

Where you are going. The GPS coordinate. You set it once and do not look at it every day.

e.g. "Lose 10kg by December 31"

LINE 2 — THE ENGINE (EFFORT)

What you do today. Every day. Fully within your control. You score this — not the result.

e.g. "Walk 30 minutes every morning at 6AM"

The Rule: We never judge the Result. We score the Effort. Every single day. The result is the shore. The effort is the rowing. Row every day. The shore will come.

The engine is the part of the goal that is 100% yours. No market condition, no client decision, no weather event can stop you from rowing. That is what makes it an engine.

The Engine passes one test: Can I do this regardless of what the market, the client, or the weather decides? If yes — Line 2. If no — Line 1.

Most people fail because they set Line 2 at 100% of their best day. The engine burns out by Day 3. Here is the fix.

WHAT HAPPENS AT 100%
Day 1: You are fired up. You execute perfectly.
Day 3: Motivation fades. Life interrupts. You miss once.
Day 7: Guilt sets in. You tell yourself you are not disciplined.
Day 10: You quit. It was not life. It was an engine set too high.
THE INSIGHT

A machine running at 90% capacity runs every single day. A machine running at 100% breaks down in three days. You are building a machine for 365 days — not for Monday morning.

The goal of the 90% Rule is not to make you comfortable. It is to make you consistent. Consistency across 365 days beats intensity across 3 days — every time.

Find the maximum you can honestly do on your best day. Set your Line 2 target at 90% of that number. Hit it every day. The wins build the momentum that takes you to 110%.

Can run 5km? Set Line 2 at 4km.
Can make 20 calls? Set Line 2 at 18 calls.
Can save $500/month? Set Line 2 at $450.
Can study 60 minutes? Set Line 2 at 45 minutes.
The Two-Day Rule: You are allowed to miss one day. You are never allowed to miss two in a row. One miss is life. Two misses is a pattern.
